The seemingly unrelated solutions of video doorbell and baby monitoring system provide the same function in transmitting video and audio between different locations, and have almost the same requirements in this respect. There are some subtle differences, but the main difference lies in the connection and the power supply. Video doorbells can be wired or wirelessly connected, while baby monitoring systems usually only use wireless connections. If the video doorbell is integrated into a residential or building infrastructure, it can provide Power over Ethernet, 24V AC or any other offline voltage. The core of the system is a low-power embedded processor-DM3xx, OMAP-L13x or AM35xx. When implementing real-time video display (no video encoding), the total power consumption of the system is less than about 100mW. Even with complete video encoding (required for compression or storage), the total power consumption of the system is still less than 400mW.

Processor-Performs video and audio processing and synchronization and controls the user interface.
Image processing-The VPFE (Video Processing Front End) image processing function provided in the aforementioned processor can reduce the overall system cost because the advanced video optimization function allows the use of cheaper sensor modules. VPFE and display subsystem (also called video processing backend-VPBE) can fully satisfy LCD or TV display screen. VPBE can also produce composite video output for analog TV and display menus in real-time video controlled by the user.
Video encoding-In order to reduce data packet transmission, these systems must have MPEG4 and H.264 video / audio compression capabilities to consume as little available bandwidth as possible. Video compression is also important for storing video to HDD or SD / MMC card. In addition, compared with MPEG4, H.264 can provide smaller compressed video, while lossless video quality after decompression.
Network stack-allows users to transfer data over an Ethernet connection. Both DM335 and DM355 require an external Ethernet MAC and PHY, while all other processors have an onboard MAC.
Audio-Two audio codecs for the visual doorbell / baby monitoring system; one for the acquisition end and the other for the display screen. DM365 has a built-in mono audio codec, while all other processors require an external audio codec for audio input / output. The external audio codec can be connected to all embedded processors included in this block diagram through the McBSP port.
Memory-stores execution code, data / parameters, video and sound. DDR2 memory is most commonly used with video processors. In response to this situation, we have dedicated memory power devices that can provide the various power rails required for DDR, DDR2, DDR3, and DDR3L memories.
Power conversion-AC / DC wall adapters are used for baby monitoring system applications, while ready-to-use residential / building offline power supplies are used for video doorbells. Other power supply options include Power over Ethernet (PoE) that can use wired Ethernet connections.
Optional equipment-According to customer requirements, a remote monitor, notebook, digital video camera, or single-board computer with a human-machine interface (HMI) can be connected. A visual doorbell that can display images remotely and store data in the hard disk can provide new functions for end users. Connecting the system to the computing platform can further improve the user experience.
